Emi Nietfeld: Acceptance
In conversation with author Mary Volmer

Tickets available at the door: $27 (credit card only) includes a copy of Acceptance.
Nietfeld's honest, harrowing and darkly humorous memoir is both a chronicle and indictment of achieving today's American Dream. Her compelling life story involves family dysfunction, mental health struggles, foster care and homelessness, the fiercely competitive college admissions process, and ultimately the resilience to live life on one's own terms.
As a homeless teenager writing college app essays from a Toyota Corolla, Nietfeld set out to prove she was an "overcomer" worthy of acceptance to the Ivy League. Though she would go on to graduate from Harvard and become a software engineer, her success didn't guarantee safety as she later revealed in a viral NY Times op-ed from April 2021 that pulled back the curtain on her experience at Google.
Don't miss this special in-person event with Emi Nietfield in conversation with Mary Volmer, as she discusses her searing memoir and the experiences that inspired it. Volmer is the author of two novels, a teacher at St. Mary's College, and the Founder of Alta Mesa Center for the Arts in Orinda, CA.
Books available for pick up at the program.
