This intermediate-level class offers techniques and tips for finding your mid-19th and 20th Century immigrant ancestors, such as searching US records to help identify places of origin, and finding other families from the same area to gather more information.

Presenter Maureen Hanlon has served on the board of The California Genealogical Society and been active in many CGS activities. She has organized Irish Ancestor meetings to allow members to learn strategies to do research in Ireland and discuss their Irish Ancestors.

How to Save Money on Prescription Drugs

Are you spending too much at the pharmacy? This talk focuses on how to save money on prescriptions regardless of whether you have Medicare, other insurance or no coverage at all.

The high cost of drugs is a growing problem and affects everyone. Many plans have high deductibles, copayments and formulary limitations. How to optimize your coverage under Medicare will be discussed, as well as various discount programs and ways to save at the pharmacy, regardless of your coverage or income. There are also some caveats regarding Canadian online pharmacies.

Join us this ongoing class practicing the gentle Chinese martial art, T'ai chi ch'uan, with local instructor Robert Noha. Sensei Noha has more than 40 years experience teaching Aikido and T'ai chi ch'uan. Beginners welcome; join us every Tuesday night at 6pm. This a free program for adults 18+, no registration is required.

To make an appointment, please call the library at 925-385-2280 or come to the Information Desk during library open hours.  Teen tech helpers are available for 30 minute time slots.

Please note that Teen Tech Help volunteers cannot perform the following activities:

  • Repair or work on your device
  • Install Hardware
  • Software or updates on your device (library apps excluded)
  • Provide Word Processing or any other clerical work
  • Provide private lessons or accept payment of any kind
  • Recommend products for you to buy

Join us in conversation with Benjamin Bahney, a political scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and a Senior Fellow at LLNL's Center for Global Security Research. He brings laboratory technical expertise to bear on national security issues in the areas of space, cyber and advanced science and technology. Since space is already a competitive and a militarized domain, the task now is to protect U.S. and allied military interests in space to guard against catastrophe.
