Master Gardeners: Good Bug/Bad Bug

"Good Bug-Bad Bug" provides a snapshot image of the fascinating insect populations that exist under the leaves, in the soil and in the air around us.  Insect pests (bad bugs) that commonly occur in our area are shown along with the beneficial insects (good bugs) that prey on them.  A little biology and a lot of colorful pictures will introduce these insects and hopefully provide a new and fascinating perspective regarding the six-legged creatures that constitute over half of all the living organisms on earth.

SF Merola Opera Preview Lecture – If I Were You

In 2019, San Francisco's acclaimed Merola Opera Program will present its first commissioned work in the program's 62-year history, the world premiere of the new full-length opera, If I Were You, by distinguished American composer Jake Heggie and noted librettist Gene Scheer. This ground-breaking work will be presented August 1 - 6, 2019, at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre.
 
Join us Saturday, July 20 at 2:00 pm for a 90-minute exploration of the music and development of If I Were You, led by lively opera experts Dr. Clifford Cranna (dramaturg) and Gene Scheer (librettist). 

This is a free event, sponsored by the Friends of the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.
  
About If I Were You
 
Fabian Hart, an aspiring writer who yearns for a way out of his stifling existence, would sell his very soul to be somebody else. Brittomara, the devil, offers him a supernatural power. By singing a secret phrase, Fabian will be able to transfer his soul into another person's body and live their life. Thus begins the perilous journey of If I Were You as Fabian moves his lost soul from person to person in search of a more fulfilling identity.

FamilySearch.org is a free database with billions of records and helpful tools to assist genealogists with their family research, and a great place for beginners to get started. We will talk about basic search techniques to help you get started and effectively use this website.

Presenter and Lafayette resident Jane Knowles Lindsey has been a member of the California Genealogical Society since 2000. She served as President and chaired many committees of the society, including leading research trips to Salt Lake City, Boston, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. She has been researching her family history since 1982 and enjoys helping others with their research.

Join us this ongoing class practicing the gentle Chinese martial art, T'ai chi ch'uan, with local instructor Robert Noha. Sensei Noha has more than 40 years experience teaching Aikido and T'ai chi ch'uan. Beginners welcome; join us every Tuesday night at 6pm.
