About the Event
Wonders of the World presents: The Oakland Zoo - Partner in Wildlife Conservation
Housing more than 850 animals, the Oakland Zoo is situated on a scenic location above I-580 off Golf Links Road in the Oakland hills. Through its innovative exhibits and programs, the Zoo serves as a major Bay Area educational resource for families, individuals, and schools. Additionally, in the 21st century, the Zoo has expanded its role in global wildlife conservation by collaborating with other conservation and cultural organizations not only to preserve species but also to restore animals to their historical homelands. WOW is pleased to host Dr. Megan Sweet, Vice President of Learning and Engagement, as she discusses the importance of Empathy and its connection to care of the natural world, why taking care of the planet is a form of social justice, and the Zoo’s participation in restoring bison to roam freely on Blackfeet tribal lands in Montana.
For special accommodations, please contact the library with 72 hours' notice. This is an in-person event, and will not be offered on Zoom.
