LAFAYETTE LIBRARY AND LEARNING CENTER FOUNDATION

GREAT MINDS AND GREAT COMMUNITIES START HERE
who we are

The Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation was established to sustain the Lafayette Library as a vibrant regional resource for the benefit of our community, now and for generations to come. Since opening in November 2009, the Foundation has helped fuel its vision of a Library as a learning center by offering enriching experiences for all ages. The Foundation mission flourishes with financial support from individual donors, corporate sponsors, grants and proceeds from facility room rentals.

what we do

People sometimes ask, “Isn’t the Library funded through taxes?” The answer is partly yes, and largely no. The City and Contra Costa County pay for a limited number of operating hours and basic Library services; while the Foundation covers approximately 52% of the Lafayette Library’s annual budget including extended hours, Library staff, programs that inspire and educate, as well as facility maintenance and upgrades.

In short, public funds make the Library possible and gifts from donors like you make it flourish!

why your giving matters

The continuing generosity of Foundation donors provides the funding needed for extended hours and professional staff; additions to the Library’s collection, including eBooks and audio materials to meet an ever-increasing demand; updated technology; and diverse programming that serves patrons of all ages, backgrounds, interests and abilities.

Thanks to you, the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation funds:

  • Programs such as the Distinguished Speaker Series featuring NY Times best-sellers and emerging authors, filmmakers, scientists, NASA specialists, athletes, et al.

  • Flexible, family-friendly premium furnishings in the Children’s Library (2018).

  • Renovations to the Children's Library deck (2019) that will provide a safe outdoor space for programs, classes and visiting patrons.

  • New laptops and iPads used for workshops and by Library patrons.

  • An expanded eBook collection, as readership trends evolve towards digital.

  • A wide selection of materials in foreign languages.

  • A dedicated Technology Lab with 3-D printer and assorted software.

  • And so much more!
