The perfect book for your summer reading list is So Far Gone, the newest book from Jess Walter, #1 New York Times bestseller, National Book Award finalist visits the Lafayette Library to share his much-awaited eighth novel, the keenly observed, salient, and sharply funny story of a journalist who, after seven years living off the grid, returns to “civilization” to rescue his kidnapped grandchildren.
After punching his conspiracy-theorist son-in-law in the mouth, Rhys Kinnick chucks his smartphone out a car window and flees to a cabin in the woods. But the real world eventually finds its way to him when his daughter goes missing and his grandchildren are taken by a dangerous militia. Accompanied by his caustic ex-girlfriend, a bipolar retired detective, and a friend who’s furious with him, Kinnick embarks on a comic, chaotic journey through America’s fractured cultural landscape, coming face to face with violent extremists, as well as the failures of his own life.
Ann Patchett writes, "I loved this book and marveled how Jess Walter managed to build such a warm, funny, loving novel out of so many horrible parts. It's an American original."
Books will be available at the program and at Orinda Books.
So Far Gone will be released on June 10.
We want to thank the Foundation's 15th anniversary sponsors Orchard Nursery and Friends of the Lafayette Library for their generous support of this program. Proceeds from this event benefit the Lafayette Library.
